Details of The Story
In a bold move, the notorious ransomware gang Blackcat, also known as ALPHV, has threatened to release sensitive documents from various U.S. intelligence agencies, including the FBI. This threat follows their claimed cyberattack on Technica Corporation, a firm known for supporting the Federal Government in defending and protecting American citizens. According to a post on their dark web blog on Tuesday, ALPHV asserts they have acquired 300GB of data, including classified and top secret documents related to the FBI and other U.S. intelligence agencies.
The group’s dark web blog post also showcased a sample of the purported stolen data, featuring 29 documents encompassing Department of Defense contracts and personal details of Technica employees.
The incident follows a recent successful international effort led by the FBI to dismantle ALPHV’s dark web homepage, to which the group swiftly responded by re-establishing their site on another part of the dark web.
ALPHV has gained notoriety for its disruptive cyberattacks, including last year’s significant strike on multiple casinos, which nearly paralyzed Las Vegas, and targeting vital infrastructure and healthcare facilities like plastic surgery clinics. The FBI has yet to comment on the situation, specifically regarding the alleged possession of agency documents by ALPHV from the attack on Technica, adding to the growing concern over the potential implications of this breach.
