A sophisticated social engineering campaign, previously targeting only Windows systems, has expanded to macOS, using fake browser updates to distribute Atomic Stealer malware. This marks the first major shift of a dominant Windows-focused cyber scam to macOS, leveraging compromised websites to trick users into downloading malicious software.

The ALPHV/BlackCat ransomware group filed a complaint with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission against MeridianLink for not disclosing a cyberattack within the required timeframe. This novel tactic of pressure by the ransomware group comes after they allegedly breached MeridianLink’s network, threatening to leak stolen data unless a ransom was paid.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has sued IT company SolarWinds and its CISO Tim Brown for allegedly misleading investors about cybersecurity practices before a major 2019 Russian hack. While SolarWinds asserts it had adequate cybersecurity measures, the SEC claims it and Brown ignored internal warnings about vulnerabilities.
